The Bourbon – May progress update

Just a quick progress update on the Bourbon.  The neck pocket is complete and the neck fit is nice.  I’m using a neck pocket that’s twice as deep as the usual pocket so I can have a double depth heel to transition from the semi-acoustic body.  This will give the guitar more of an acoustic appearance and will provide a more comfortable neck when playing close to the body.

You can also see in the picture that I’ve begun to apply the cream binding to the sides (I’ll remove the blue tape once the glue cures).  This serves two purposes.  First, it protects the end grain of the spruce top from drying out and splitting.  Secondly, the cream binding will provide a nice contrast to the black finish and define the sides of the guitar.  I plan to route pickup cavities tomorrow, so more progress to come…
